Analysis

With 13,805 total units manufactured, the Model 1076 was developed primarily in response to FBI requirements following the 1986 Miami shootout, initially as a contract pistol (with some differences like no magazine disconnect on FBI versions). It served as a compact counterpart to the full-size Model 1026, offering similar handling characteristics in a shorter package for duty or carry roles. The design managed 10mm recoil through its weight and construction, though early production issues (including spring-related extraction problems on some units) affected the FBI contract, which was reduced from an original 10,000-unit order to around 2,400–2,500 delivered. Civilian versions included a magazine disconnect. Limited overall production and the model's law enforcement history contribute to its position in the 10mm collector market. Verified FBI-issue examples (often marked or with specific serial prefixes like TEU/TEF/TFP) command premiums, sometimes double standard civilian values, due to historical significance and rarity on the open market.
