Analysis

The Smith & Wesson Model 2213 and Model 2214, both marketed as the Sportsman .22, are compact semi-automatic pistols chambered in .22 LR. Both share the same basic blowback-operated mechanism with a fixed barrel positioned low in the frame below the recoil spring. This design results in a notably low bore axis compared to most .22 handguns. The 2213 features a silver alloy frame paired with a stainless steel slide, often including a threaded barrel (typically with 11/32x48 threads for suppressors). The 2214 has a blued carbon steel slide over an alloy frame with a standard non-threaded barrel configuration in most cases, though variations exist. These pistols were manufactured during a period when Smith & Wesson was expanding its rimfire semi-auto lineup beyond the established Model 41 target pistol, targeting plinking and casual shooting applications. These models remain a niche option in the .22 handgun segment, valued by collectors of Smith & Wesson rimfires or those seeking a compact, low-profile plinker with distinctive engineering characteristics.

It’s an excellent and simply designed semi-automatic .22 LR. It’s very easy to place an ATF approved supressor on this weapon. I highly recommend the Fiocchi .22 LR subsonic rounds (The box is red with, “OFFICIAL 300,” inscribed on the box. Safe and accurate shooting, to all!

I absolutely love this gun. Easy to keep on 1.5" target out to 25 yards.
