Analysis

This .40 caliber pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a dependable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, while the ergonomic design provides a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, aiding in control during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong suit, with the firearm performing well under varied conditions and minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a design that requires more effort for disassembly and cleaning compared to newer models. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge, as they are not as widely stocked. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, which might affect precision for some users, and the felt recoil is noticeable, potentially impacting follow-up shots for those unaccustomed to the .40 S&W round. Overall, it’s a capable choice with some practical considerations.

Went through my first LE academy with a 411. Shot over 2000 rnds and ran that gun hard with malfunction drills. I was issued a Glock so I sold the 411. I recently bought a nice used 411 and it is everything I missed in my first gun. Accurate, reliable and excellent double/single action trigger. Sights are a bit archaic but fine for the range.

S&W 40cal, M411

Bought it new, the year it came out, still shooting it today. Never had 1 issue with any part of the gun internally, or external rusting. Was the best money I never knew I was spending on a handgun for life. I do, of course, clean & maintain it following each use, as well as inspecting and caring for the external metal as well.

S&W Model 411 a lot of bang for the buck
By GThomas on 24 Jul 2020
I've owned a S&W Model 411 pistol for almost 20 years now and am completely satisfied with it. It shoots straight, eats ANY ammo, is well built and seems to be holding up very well after many rounds fired through it. I used to use it as my CCW weapon but have since downsized to a S&W Shield in .40 S&W. The 411 is a lot heavier/larger than the Shield (Obviously), but the 411 does hold (11 + 1) to the Shields (7 +1) so I have several options for CCW.
