These features include an improved trigger action, field interchangeable palm swells, black Melonite finished stainless steel barrel and slide with twin scalloped slide serrations, a Zytel polymer frame reinforced with a stainless steel chassis, and an accessory rail.

Analysis

The 9mm original M&P gained broad acceptance in law enforcement and civilian markets due to its magazine capacity advantage, manageable recoil, and compatibility with widely available ammunition. This contributed to sustained demand and higher production volume compared to the other calibers during the era when 9mm began regaining favor for duty and defensive use. Performance Center ported barrel variants added factory porting and slide modifications to reduce muzzle rise, primarily targeting competition or rapid-fire applications within the same production window.
