About the Gun

SD Series striker fired polymer frame pistols evolved from Smith & Wesson's earlier Sigma pistol designs. They are meant to fall between the company’s Sigma and M&P lines, both in terms of features and price. The first generation models came with a Melonite finish slide and a tritium night front sight. The second generation models come with a stainless steel slide and standard combat 3 dot sights. Features include deeply defined front and rear serrations on the slide and an ergonomic grip with textured grip panels.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a reliable and budget-friendly firearm for personal defense or range use. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate distances when paired with quality ammunition. The ergonomic design fits comfortably in most hands, with a textured grip that aids in control during firing. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions well under various conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a stiffer disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced users. Availability of aftermarket parts and accessories is also limited, potentially hindering customization. The trigger pull, while consistent, feels a bit heavy at around 8 pounds, which could affect precision for some shooters. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most, though follow-up shots may require slight adjustment for newer users.

Totally reliable. Never jams. Fires any 9mm ammo. Trigger a bit heavy but smooth. Great value at $300-$380. Good value above that. As accurate as any 9mm hand gun. Fit and finish very good.
