About the Gun

SD Series striker fired polymer frame pistols evolved from Smith & Wesson's earlier Sigma pistol designs. They are meant to fall between the company’s Sigma and M&P lines, both in terms of features and price. The first generation models came with a Melonite finish slide and a tritium night front sight. The second generation models come with a stainless steel slide and standard combat 3 dot sights. Features include deeply defined front and rear serrations on the slide and an ergonomic grip with textured grip panels.

Analysis

This 9mm polymer-framed pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a reliable duty or self-defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at typical engagement distances, while the ergonomic grip design accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during extended use. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning well under diverse conditions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the complexity of disassembly for thorough cleaning, which may frustrate less experienced users. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts or accessories might pose challenges in certain regions. The trigger pull, averaging around 8 pounds, feels heavy for some, potentially affecting precision for those accustomed to lighter mechanisms. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most, though shooters sensitive to kick may notice it during rapid fire. Overall, it’s a practical choice with considerations for specific user needs.
