Analysis

This iconic .44 Magnum revolver exemplifies raw power and precision in a classic design. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering tight groupings at moderate ranges when paired with a skilled shooter. The ergonomics are well-suited for most hand sizes, with a grip that provides a secure hold during firing. Reliability is a hallmark, as the mechanism operates smoothly under varied conditions with proper care. However, maintenance can be demanding, requiring regular attention to prevent wear on critical components. Parts availability may pose challenges, especially for older variants, potentially frustrating owners needing repairs. The trigger pull is crisp in single action, though heavier in double action, which might affect rapid follow-up shots. Felt recoil is substantial, often intimidating for newer shooters or those unaccustomed to high-powered cartridges, making it less ideal for extended range sessions without adequate preparation.

Childhood dream come true!

I've wanted this gun since I was a kid watching Dirty Harry with my dad. Originally I wanted the6 inch but when I saw the 4 inch on consignment at Belmont Firearms and Range I just had to have it. It seems to have lighter recoil than the standard Smith and Wesson model 629, probably due to the fact that its not made of stainless steel. I installed rubber grips to keep the gun from moving in my hand. I love this gun so much.

Purchased mine in 1979, 8 3/8” new with wood case. Beautiful pistol and a fantastic shooter. Have taken a good number of Whitetail deer with this GREAT pistol. Will be passing it on someday.
