About the Gun

The Model 29 (commonly known as the 44 Magnum) was produced between 1956 and 1997. The gun was developed to satisfy shooters who were demanding more powerful cartridges than the .44 S&W Special. This model was made popular by the 'Dirty Harry' films. Smith & Wesson re-introduced this revolver as part of their 'Classics' series in 2008.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed by Smith & Wesson and Remington, and was introduced for a new heavy-frame 44 Magnum revolver. Today Ruger, Colt, Smith & Wesson and others make revolvers for this cartridge. This is a high powered pistol cartridge designed primarily for hunting. The .44 Magnum offers less power than .50 AE and .454 Casull, but much more than .357 Magnum.

Purchased mine in 1979, 8 3/8” new with wood case. Beautiful pistol and a fantastic shooter. Have taken a good number of Whitetail deer with this GREAT pistol. Will be passing it on someday.
