Introduced to commemorate the centenary of Smith & Wesson, this design was a modification of the 'J'-frame, adapted to accept the enclosed hammer and grip safety. Smith & Wesson re-introduced this revolver as part of their 'Classics' series in 2008.

Analysis

This classic double-action revolver in .38 Special caliber offers a blend of historical design and practical performance for shooters valuing simplicity and dependability. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-aligned barrel and fixed sights. The ergonomics cater to a wide range of hand sizes, with a grip that provides a secure hold during firing. Reliability is a strong suit, as the mechanism functions smoothly under varied conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring regular attention to prevent wear on older components. Availability of replacement parts may pose challenges due to the age of the design. The trigger pull is crisp in single-action mode but heavier in double-action, which might affect some users’ precision. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with standard loads, ensuring control during rapid fire.
