Analysis

This .357 Magnum revolver offers notable strengths for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at moderate ranges, while the ergonomic grip design enhances handling during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with a robust build that withstands regular use under varied conditions. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it may feel slightly heavy for some users, requiring acclimation. Felt recoil is manageable for experienced shooters but can be sharp for novices, especially with full-power loads. On the downside, maintenance demands attention due to the intricacies of the mechanism, and sourcing replacement parts can occasionally pose challenges. Additionally, the weight might deter those prioritizing concealability or lightweight carry. Overall, it’s a solid choice for enthusiasts valuing durability, though it requires commitment to upkeep and adaptation to its characteristics.

Wheelgun Machinery Excellence!
By quavis on 21 Nov 2022
This K-frame model pistol from Smith & Wesson is a beautifully-crafted,well-balanced,ergonomic side arm of superb form and function. The original version was highly favored by both law enforcement and citizens for nearly 50 years, then discontinued, only to return 10 years later from raving popular demand. It packs intensive power in just a medium frame, but is durable for the cause. If there had to be reasons for an old-school,wheelgun resurgence, the S&W Model 66 revolver is certainly one of them. It's an accurate, loud, fun shooter as well as a charming classic collector.

Great revolver...but for the internal lock
By EmeraldCoaster on 15 Apr 2019
S&W is keeping the internal lock, for now, so this K-frame is judged with that in mind. Other than the lock, the Model 66-8 is a very nice package. Both DA and SA trigger pulls are smooth, no stacking or grittiness. Timing and lockup are as expected—solid. Takes the X-frame recoil absorbing grip. Note: currently comes with red ramp front sight.
