About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed by Smith & Wesson and Remington, and was introduced for a new heavy-frame 44 Magnum revolver. Today Ruger, Colt, Smith & Wesson and others make revolvers for this cartridge. This is a high powered pistol cartridge designed primarily for hunting. The .44 Magnum offers less power than .50 AE and .454 Casull, but much more than .357 Magnum.

Nice package for outdoor OWB carry

The 4.25” barrel provides good balance, functional sights with S&W quality timing/lockup. Smooth DA and SA trigger pull. The 5-round capacity is there to like or dislike. The snappy recoil with full-power magnum rounds, though certainly manageable, is improved by swapping the OEM 2-piece grip for the X-frame recoil absorbing grip.
