About the Gun

This heat-treated scanium alloy N-frame revolver is Smith & Wesson’s answer to the Taurus Judge. It’s 6-shot capacity gives it one round more than the Judge. The gun can be loaded with .410 2-1/2 inch shotshells, .45 Auto or .45 Colt cartridges, alone or in combination with the use of included moon clips for the .45 Auto rounds. Although the same model fires both .45 Colt rounds and .45 Auto rounds, the gun is listed in the database twice to get separate rankings based on each cartridge. At this point in time we are not providing ranking on guns that fire .410 shotshells.

Analysis

This revolver in .45 Colt caliber offers a robust design tailored for versatility and performance. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both recreational shooting and personal defense. The ergonomic grip design enhances control, fitting comfortably in a variety of hand sizes, which aids in managing the noticeable felt recoil inherent to the powerful cartridge. Reliability is a key asset, with the mechanism functioning smoothly under diverse conditions, provided regular maintenance is observed. However, upkeep can be somewhat demanding, as the intricate components require diligent cleaning to prevent wear. Availability of replacement parts may pose challenges, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, though slightly heavy, which might require acclimation for some shooters. Overall, it’s a capable choice, balancing power and precision, though attention to care and customization needs is essential.

Great home and car defense firearm

Mine is the silver variant. Super nice smooth double action. Unbelievable single action trigger. Like the included 45 ACP loaders. I usually have it loaded with 4 Federal OO buckshot and 2, Winchester Ranger 45+P ACP’s HP’s. Will vary the ACP’s with 45 Colt 200gr HP’s.
