About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Production

Analysis

This .40 S&W semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a balance of performance and practicality. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully executed, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, as it cycles smoothly with a wide range of ammunition under typical conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more frequent attention to ensure optimal function. Parts availability may pose challenges for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, which aids in precision, while the felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper technique, though it may feel sharp to those unaccustomed to the caliber.
