About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Production

This competition model was produced between 1994 and 2006. Manufacturing primarily occurred in Switzerland, with limited runs in the late 1990s and early 2000s, catering to precision shooting enthusiasts before production ceased.

Analysis

This 9x21mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-balanced design and quality barrel. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates various hand sizes, promoting a natural hold during extended sessions. Reliability is generally solid, functioning smoothly under diverse conditions with proper care. However, maintenance can be a challenge, as disassembly requires patience and familiarity with the design, potentially frustrating less experienced users. Availability of replacement parts may also be limited, posing issues for long-term ownership. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single action, though some might find the reset slightly long. Felt recoil is manageable, absorbing energy effectively, making it suitable for both novice and seasoned shooters looking for a dependable handgun.
