About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Production

Analysis

This .40 S&W pistol offers a solid combination of precision and ergonomic design, making it a viable choice for both novice and experienced shooters. Its accuracy is noteworthy, with consistent grouping at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-balanced frame and sight alignment. The grip contours fit comfortably in various hand sizes, enhancing control during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, as it performs consistently under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the complexity of disassembly, which may deter less mechanically inclined users. Availability of replacement parts could also pose a challenge in certain regions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, providing a predictable break. Felt recoil is moderate for the caliber, manageable with proper grip, though it may feel sharp to those unaccustomed to higher-powered rounds.
