About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a reliable and accurate firearm. Its precision is noteworthy, with consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both casual and competitive use. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip, accommodating a variety of hand sizes, which enhances control during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, as it performs well under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more effort than some comparable models due to its intricate design. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, providing a predictable break. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, though those sensitive to kick might notice it during rapid fire.
