About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Analysis

This 9x21 mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, with tight groupings achievable at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully designed, providing a natural grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, reducing fatigue during extended sessions. Reliability is another strength, as it consistently cycles through various ammunition types with minimal malfunctions under standard conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring specific tools and attention to detail for disassembly. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge, particularly for those outside major markets. The trigger pull is smooth, averaging around 5 pounds in single action, though some may find it slightly heavy in double action. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users with proper technique, ensuring control during rapid fire.
