About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Analysis

This .40 S&W pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a balance of performance and practicality. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both defensive and range use. The ergonomics are well-thought-out, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during firing. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions smoothly even under extended use with minimal malfunctions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more effort than some competitors due to its design complexity. Parts availability may also pose a challenge, as sourcing replacements can be inconsistent. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which aids precision, though some may find it slightly heavy for rapid follow-up shots. Felt recoil is moderate for the caliber, manageable with proper technique but noticeable during prolonged sessions.
