About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Production

Analysis

This .40 S&W semi-automatic pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is commendable, with a well-designed barrel and sight system that aids in consistent shot placement during range sessions. The ergonomics are thoughtfully executed, providing a comfortable grip for a variety of hand sizes, which enhances handling during extended use. Reliability is another strong point, as it performs consistently under diverse conditions with proper care. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more attention to detail than some might prefer. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, which could affect precision for newer shooters, while the felt recoil is moderate but noticeable, especially during rapid fire. Overall, it’s a capable choice with some considerations for specific user needs.
