About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. The ergonomic design ensures a natural grip, reducing fatigue during extended sessions, and accommodates a wide range of hand sizes. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm performing consistently under various conditions, even with budget ammunition. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, as disassembly requires patience and familiarity with its intricate components. Availability of replacement parts may also pose challenges, potentially frustrating owners needing quick repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds in single action, which aids control, though some may find the double-action pull heavier than preferred. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, ensuring follow-up shots remain on target with practice.
