About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Production

Production of this model began in 1996 and continued until 2010. It was primarily manufactured during this period to meet specific law enforcement needs, with consistent output through those years before discontinuation.

Analysis

This 9x21 mm pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both casual and competitive use. The ergonomic design ensures a secure grip, accommodating a variety of hand sizes with ease, which enhances control during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm performing well under diverse conditions, even with varying ammunition types. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more frequent attention to keep it in optimal condition. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is smooth, averaging around 5 pounds in single action, providing a predictable break. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, though those sensitive to kick might notice it during rapid fire.
