About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 1996 and continued until 2010. It was manufactured primarily in Switzerland, with assembly and distribution managed through various international partners during that period.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, which makes it suitable for both target practice and defensive use. The ergonomic design fits well in hand, accommodating a variety of grip sizes with ease, and the controls are intuitively placed for quick operation. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm performing consistently even under extended use. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, as disassembly requires attention to detail and may frustrate less experienced users. Availability of replacement parts could also pose a challenge, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is smooth, with a predictable break at around 5 pounds, aiding in shot control. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, though those sensitive to kick might find follow-up shots require extra focus.
