About the Gun

The Sphinx 2000 series is based on the Czech CZ-75 pistol. Improvements to the CZ design include a firing pin safety and slightly different barrel/slide locking system. Sphinx pistols are made in a wide variety of models and modifications, suitable for self-defense, police duty, and practical shooting under IPSC and IDPA rules. The Sphinx 2000 is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. The barrel is operated using a Browning cam system, and is locked to the slide by single lug via a large ejection port. Most 2000 models feature a Double Action (DA/SA) trigger with external hammer.

Analysis

This 9x21 mm pistol offers a compelling option for shooters seeking precision and comfort. Its accuracy is noteworthy, with tight groupings achievable even at extended ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sighting system. The ergonomic design ensures a natural grip, reducing fatigue during prolonged use, while reliability remains consistent across various conditions, with minimal malfunctions during extensive testing. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds in single action, providing a predictable break that aids control. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, though it may feel sharp to those accustomed to lighter calibers. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring patience for disassembly and cleaning. Availability of replacement parts may also pose challenges, particularly for those outside major markets. Additionally, the design might not suit shooters with smaller hands due to its grip size.
