About the Gun

Springfield's Croatian made XDM pistol is not intended to be a replacement for the company's XD series. Moreover it represents a high-end option alternative to the XD. This is seen in features such as its precision machined match-grade barrel and extremely short trigger travel and reset. The polymer grip has interchangeable palm swells and holds higher capacity magazines than the XD series. Features still common between the XD and XDM series are the loaded chamber indicator, the cocked status indicator and the 1911 style grip safety.

Analysis

This .45 Auto competition pistol offers notable precision, thanks to its match-grade barrel and adjustable rear sight, making it a solid choice for target shooting. The ergonomic grip design, with interchangeable backstraps, accommodates various hand sizes, enhancing control during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, as it consistently performs under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous cleaning to preserve performance, which may deter casual users. Availability of replacement parts can also be an issue, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, providing a predictable break for accurate shot placement. Felt recoil is moderate for the caliber, manageable for most shooters, though those sensitive to heavier kick may need adjustment time. Overall, it’s a capable option for competitive and recreational use, provided the user commits to upkeep.
