About the Gun

Also referred to as the Model 50, the Megastar is a large, all-steel, double-action(DA/SA), double-column semi-auto pistol whose platform design can support toolings for both the .45 ACP and 10mm Auto cartridges. The design uses internal slide rails, instead of more usual external rails. The safety lever has three positions: up for "fire" mode, where the red dot is shown; middle for "safe" mode, this withdraws and locks the firing pin; and down for safe decocking, after which the safety lever springs back to the "safe" position.

Analysis

This .45 Auto pistol offers a solid blend of performance and design for shooters seeking a reliable full-size handgun. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering tight groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip fits most hand sizes comfortably, aiding in control during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent function across various ammunition types under typical conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, as disassembly requires attention to detail and may challenge less experienced users. Parts availability is another concern, as sourcing replacements can be difficult compared to more common models. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds in single-action mode, which enhances precision. Felt recoil is manageable for a .45, though shooters unaccustomed to larger calibers might find it noticeable during rapid fire. Overall, it’s a capable choice with some practical limitations.

By far one of my favorite handguns. Large but comfortable to hold and shoot, heavy yet concealable with a IWB holster, and a straight sexy pistol. Next to the Ruger P89 or the S&W 5906, this is definitely a weapon to collect and cherish.
