About the Gun

The Taurus DT Hybrid series semiauto pistols are built on a polymer-over-steel frame and chambered in 9mm or .40 SW. Features include a strike two-capable trigger; i.e., if the primer ever fails to ignite when firing in single-action mode, the gun reverts to double action mode to provide a potentially life-saving second or third try at a faulty cartridge. The pistol will then automatically revert back to single action mode. This pistol also features contoured ambidextrous thumb rests and finger indexing memory pads that offer added purchase. The ambidextrous magazine release makes this pistol work for left- or right-handed shooters, and the rear sight is fully adjustable. Offered with a blued or matte stainless finish, the pistol includes a manual safety, a visual loaded chamber indicator, a trigger safety and the key-based Taurus Security System.

Analysis

This 9mm hybrid pistol offers a compelling blend of features for shooters seeking a versatile sidearm. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, which suits both casual and defensive use. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip, accommodating various hand sizes with ease, while the reliability holds up well under regular firing conditions, showing minimal malfunctions during extended sessions. The trigger pull is smooth, with a crisp break around 5 pounds in single action, though some may find the double-action pull slightly heavier than preferred. Felt recoil is manageable, even with hotter loads, making follow-up shots straightforward. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, and sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges for some owners. Overall, it’s a solid option, though not without minor drawbacks for specific users.
