About the Gun

Re-introduction of the PPK and PPK/s by Walther. The slides of the new PPK and PPK/S pistols are built at the Walther factory in Germany and then imported into the United States, while the frames are built at Walther’s factory in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where they are then assembled before being shipped. These are the first PPK and PPK/S pistols since the 1980s that are authentic Walther-made pistols and not just Walther-licensed copies.

Production

Production of this post-war, pre-GCA variant likely occurred between 1954 and 1968, before the Gun Control Act was enacted. Manufacturing during this period was primarily in West Germany, resuming after World War II under strict regulations.

Analysis

This compact .380 Auto pistol is a classic design with notable strengths for concealed carry and personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm of this size, delivering consistent performance at typical self-defense ranges. The ergonomics are well-suited for smaller hands, offering a comfortable grip and intuitive handling, though larger-handed shooters might find it less accommodating. Reliability is generally solid with proper maintenance, as it performs well under regular use with quality ammunition. However, upkeep can be demanding, requiring meticulous cleaning to prevent malfunctions. Parts availability may pose challenges, as sourcing replacements or upgrades can be difficult and costly. The trigger pull is crisp but somewhat heavy, which could affect precision for some users. Felt recoil is manageable for the caliber, though it may feel sharp due to the lightweight frame, especially during extended range sessions.
