Analysis

American Derringer introduced the Model 6 in 1986 as the long-barrel gun on the Model 1 lockwork: top-break barrels, automatic barrel selection, and a hammer-block safety that drops off when the hammer is cocked. Catalogs listed .45 Colt / .410 as the stock chambering, with .357 Mag, .45 Auto, and .22 Mag also offered. The longer barrel was the point of the model—more velocity and a longer sight line than the 3-inch and 4.1-inch guns. Output stayed small. The rimfire run ended first; the centerfire guns followed the rest of the Waco line into a long fade. Used Model 6 examples turn up less often than a Model 1 and usually sell in the same neighborhood when the grips and finish are original.
