About the Gun

Each Kimber Ultra Carry has a lowered and flared ejection port with an extra bevel at the front to clear ejecting brass. The shortened machined 7075-T7 aluminum frame retains 7-round magazine capacity. The Ultra Carry slide has the longest cycle time of any small 1911 pistol, ensuring unequaled reliability. Bull barrel design keeps maximum weight forward, reducing muzzle lift and recoil. Kimber Ultra Carry pistols weigh just 25 ounces. Their short 3-inch barrels, compact grips and flat 1911 profiles make them easy to carry and conceal.

Analysis

This .45 Auto pistol offers a compelling package for concealed carry and personal defense. Its compact design enhances ease of carry, while the stainless steel construction provides durability and resistance to corrosion, ideal for daily use in varying conditions. Accuracy is commendable, with a tight grouping at typical defensive ranges, supported by a crisp trigger pull averaging around 4-5 pounds, which aids in precise shot placement. Ergonomics are well-considered, with a grip that fits most hand sizes comfortably, though felt recoil can be noticeable due to the lightweight frame, potentially affecting follow-up shots for less experienced shooters. Reliability is generally solid under regular conditions, but maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous cleaning to prevent wear on critical components. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose a challenge, as availability is not always consistent, which could be a concern for long-term ownership.
