About the Gun

The 1911 Ultra Compact is a short-barreled, single-action 1911-style pistol with an aluminum-alloy frame and stainless-steel slide. It features low-profile night sights, a skeletonized hammer and trigger, an enhanced beavertail grip safety, and either wood or G10 grips depending on the specific finish. Controls follow the classic 1911 layout with a manual thumb safety. The design is intended for concealed carry while retaining familiar 1911 ergonomics in a significantly reduced overall size.

Analysis

SIG developed the Ultra Compact to bring the 1911 platform into a more concealable package without abandoning the single-action trigger and controls preferred by many shooters. The alloy frame kept weight manageable for everyday carry, while the short bushingless barrel and reduced grip length addressed the bulk of full-size and Commander models. Availability in both .45 ACP and 9mm, along with multiple finish options, allowed the model to serve as a dedicated defensive pistol rather than a scaled-down range gun.
