About the Gun

The modern Sig Sauer pistol story began with the P220. Initially offered in several centerfire calibers in 1976, all but the .45 ACP chambering were eventually dropped. The .45 ACP P220 went on to become recognized as one of 'the most accurate 45s right out of the box.' Since that time the P220 has earned an enviable record in hot spots around the world. Today the P220 features a stainless steel slide machined from bar stock and coated with a durable, wear-resistant Nitron finish or natural stainless finish, light-weight alloy frame with integral accessory rail, and the Sig Sauer four-point safety system of decocking lever, patented automatic firing pin safety block, safety intercept notch, and trigger bar disconnector.

Analysis

This compact .45 Auto pistol offers a solid blend of performance and practicality for shooters seeking a reliable carry or duty option. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, while the ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, aiding in control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning well under varied conditions and minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though slightly heavy at around 10 pounds, transitioning to a crisp single-action pull near 4.5 pounds. Felt recoil is manageable, though noticeably sharp due to the potent caliber in a smaller frame. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for disassembly and cleaning. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges, and the weight could feel excessive for some users prioritizing concealability.
