About the Cartridge

Smith & Wesson introduced this cartridge for its heavy-frame revolver. Ammunition was developed by Winchester in cooperation with Smith & Wesson. Using a lengthened and strengthened version of the .38 Special case, the .357 Magnum was rapidly accepted by hunters and law enforcement. At the time of its introduction, it was claimed to easily pierce the body panels of automobiles and crack engine blocks. While it has less power than the .44 Magnum, it compares favorably to the 10mm Norma and .45 ACP, but with better armor penetration. Today factories offer over fifty different loadings in this caliber.

S&W .357

This is a double action pistol I inherited. This pistol is awesome. It's point on every time. It's more accurate at a distance when loaded with .38 ammo. This gun is "hawg leg" no doubt. It's not a great conceal carry gun by any measure but if your trying to bring down wild hogs or coyotes at close range this is your partner.

STRONG & BEAUTIFUL K-FRAME GUN
By quavis on 26 Sep 2021
Here is one powerful .357 Magnum Pistol of the great Smith & Wesson line that has returned after a 10 year absence, then reintroduced in 2014 even better with a K-frame (medium-profile) and comes with a red/orange insert front sight and a white outline rear adjustable sight. The double action trigger on this revolver is extremely smooth. One trip to the range showed me it has much kick but discipline and control is what I have to work on. A fun shooter!
