While developed in 1929, the post Second World War production ban resulted in Walther issuing a manufacturing license for the PP to the French company Manurhin in 1949. US imports of the PP began in 1963 which were French made until 1986, when Walther resumed its own manufacturing. The PP (which stands for Polizei Pistole) is a compact double-action (DA/SA)hammer-fired semi-automatic pistol that has been used by police forces throughout the world.
